2025 Beta Readers Wanted/Available

@hlh_shortcuts participants, we strongly encourage the use of a betareader for your finished exchange stories! Because while "No Beta We Die Like The Kurgan" sure is a choice for a tag, is it a choice you want to make? (Maybe you do?)

 

If you do not, and you need a betareader, please post "Beta Wanted" requests.

 

Do you want to offer betareading? This is also the place to post your offers. "Beta Available" is the subject line.

 

**If you are a betareader:** Please post what you are able to beta, for example, SPAG (spelling and grammar), pacing, characterization, plot, historical costuming details and/or general historical accuracy, fight scenes of various types, swordwork, crossover fandoms, or anything else not noted above. Include contact info!

 

**If you are looking for a betareader:** Please say what aspects of your exchange fic you need betaread, either something noted above or anything else you're looking for. Also include your contact info, the approximate length of your fic, and we do ask that you run spell/grammar check first and give your fic a look-through before sending it to your beta.

 

Writers, please save details that would reveal you to discuss directly with your beta (ie, historical items and/or crossover fandoms). We have both the anon period and the guessing game to contend with!

 

A note of caution: Should you be so informal as to ask for a beta for "just vibes," that's a buyer beware beta match-up. My Highlander vibes might not be yours! Betareaders may not be able to do a vibe check.

I'm able to beta for works based on the first movie and the series; I haven't seen the later movies or The Raven. I can and unless forcibly prevented will check your spelling, grammar, pacing, plot, characterization, and general historical accuracy (depending of course on the setting you choose). I can beta pretty much all of SPAG (spelling and grammar), pacing, characterization, plot, historical costuming details and/or general historical accuracy, fight scenes of various types. I WILL beta SPAG if you ask me to beta. I really only know the series. I probably couldn't do much about crossovers. I will not nitpick your characterization if it works within the context of your story.

I am always happy to beta! I'm good to do SPAG, pacing, plot, characterization (with the acknowledgement that some amount of characterization is going to be somewhat subjective), general clarity, etc. I love brainstorming stuff, so I'm also happily available to just bounce ideas around for whoever might need it! I'm most familiar with the original movie, the series, and The Raven.
